Target Group
The Self Help Group Project is aimed at helping all women within the community. In reality it is often the very poor women, who do not have access to other methods of saving and who are often the most vulnerable to poverty and sickness, who have the highest level of interest and participation in the project. The project primarily works with women because women are responsible for managing the household finances, paying school fees, medical expenses etc.
The project operates within the slums and villages around the town of Gulu. Most of the populations of the slums are people who were forced to leave their homes during the war due to insecurity, or are former abductees who have been rejected by their communities and branded as rebels.
To date we have formed and trained 81 groups within Gulu Municipality, with total beneficiaries of a little over 2,000 members.
